THE JACK WEAVER CUP

On Sunday 30th October 2005, Simone and Paul Weaver’s life was turned upside down and would be changed forever. They were expecting their first child and Simone was just over 37 weeks pregnant when the unthinkable was confirmed. Their unborn child had died. Simone was then induced the next day and a little boy by the name of Jack Weaver was delivered stillborn on Tuesday 1st November 2005 at the ‘MercyHospital for Women’ in Heidelberg. It was Melbourne Cup Day.

Considering the tragic circumstances, the midwives and doctors at the Mercy Hospital came together and provided such a service that we cannot thank them enough. In order to help them provide an even better service, an annual cricket match has been established in Jack’s honor. This event is called ‘The Jack Weaver Cup’ and with the help of staff from the ‘McAuley Foundation’, ‘The Jack Weaver Cup’ will be played to raise funds for the ‘MercyHospital for Women’.

In January 2006, the ‘First Annual Jack Weaver Cup’ was held at Doreen Cricket Ground for family and close friends and raised over $500 for the hospital. This year we are aiming for a bigger and better day to raise enough to purchase a Neopuff Hand ventilator ($1,300) this piece of equipment manually ventilates babies during resuscitation and we can only do this with your help.
The 2nd Annual Jack Weaver Cup was held in February 2007. Over $3,000 was raised which enables a Neopuff Hand ventilator to be purchased for the Mercy Hospital for Women. If you would like to donate in anyway to this fundraising event, please click on the donation button below
